One of the greatest advantages of hosting a destination wedding in Hawaii is that your celebration doesn’t have to be limited to a single day.
When guests travel thousands of miles to celebrate with you, your wedding naturally becomes a shared vacation experience. While the wedding day itself is often the centerpiece of the weekend, many couples are choosing to create additional opportunities for guests to connect, relax, and experience Maui together.
If you’re wondering what to do with your guests during your wedding weekend, here’s a real example from one of my favorite Maui celebrations.

Brooke and Sam wanted their wedding to feel like more than a ceremony and reception. They wanted their guests to experience Maui while spending meaningful time together throughout the weekend.
The festivities began with a girls’ brunch at the Cliff House in Kapalua. With sweeping ocean views and a relaxed atmosphere, it was the perfect setting for guests to gather before the wedding day. A haku lei-making workshop hosted by Manutea Nui gave everyone an opportunity to create something beautiful while experiencing a meaningful Hawaiian tradition.
Later that evening, guests attended a rehearsal dinner at the Resort at Kapalua Bay. Hosting a welcome event before the wedding is one of my favorite recommendations because it allows couples to connect with their guests before the busy wedding day arrives. Instead of trying to squeeze conversations into cocktail hour, couples can relax knowing they’ve already had quality time with the people they love most.
The next day, guests enjoyed a sunset sail along Maui’s coastline with Trilogy. Seeing the island from the water created a memorable shared experience and gave everyone an opportunity to unwind together while taking in the views.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a pool party hosted at the resort. Guests spent the afternoon swimming, relaxing, and enjoying a variety of interactive experiences. A lei-making station encouraged guests to gather and create, while Catered Coconut served fresh coconuts cut on-site. A champagne cart made its way through the party, creating an atmosphere that felt celebratory without being overly formal.

One misconception many couples have is that they need to fill every moment of the weekend with activities.
In reality, the best wedding weekends often leave plenty of room for guests to enjoy Maui at their own pace.
The goal isn’t to create a busy itinerary.
The goal is to create opportunities for connection.
For some couples, that might mean a welcome dinner and a farewell brunch. For others, it could be a sunset sail, golf outing, spa day, or cultural experience.

Some of the most memorable experiences I’ve seen couples include are:

The most memorable destination weddings aren’t necessarily the biggest or most expensive.
They’re the weddings that make guests feel included, welcomed, and connected.
Whether you choose one special activity or plan an entire weekend of events, creating opportunities for guests to experience Maui together is often what transforms a beautiful wedding into an unforgettable celebration.
