Let me clarify a couple of things, 1/5 of a second isn’t always the perfect shutter speed for these types of shots. In some cases if there are lots of light sources that you will use to light paint/drag your shutter with, you might need to speed it up a little more so you can control the “trail/light streaks”.
You can still accomplish the same look if you are at 1/30 of a second you will have to move the camera a little bit quicker right after releasing your shutter.
You should always be mindful of the major light sources that you use for light painting, in this case it was a DJ lights I stated in the video.
If the DJ lights are behind you front lighting your subject, you will definitely get ghosting. What I mean by ghosting is a blurred image of your subject. This is why I will always find the brightest light source in the room, most likely the DJ lights, and place that behind my subject using it to give a cool effect as you see in this photo. There is a blue/purple glow of the DJ lights bouncing off the walls and “rim lighting/back lighting” your subject.

Additional info: When dragging your shutter during

Additional info: When dragging your shutter during dance floor photos it is critical to get your settings right. MY setting of this one were 1/15 F5.6 (is super forgiving when focusing especially when your subject isn’t still and your are moving also) ISO 250.
AGAIN the 24mm is an awesome lens for dance floor action shots because you can get right on your subject and not worry about having other people in the way, you can fit lots into the frame without major distortion on the edges of the pic.

My settings where set this way for a specific reason. I want to make sure I let in the least amount of ambient light in (ideally none) and that the flash is the only light source on my subject to avoid ghosting.

One of the things I love most about my job is the

One of the things I love most about my job is the challenge of creating beautiful images with the surroundings and light you are given. Finding beauty in unexpected locations.
I took this photo during sunset at Lahaina Harbor during a crowded afternoon. This is the waiting area near the bathrooms when the light was shinning through and the overgrown vines made it feel fairy like. I had a blast shooting all around the front street areas.

A couple of things I did in post to finalize this

A couple of things I did in post to finalize this image. When shooting wide open (at 1.2 aperture in this case) and into strong backlight it is common to get a bit of color fringe on the edges of your subject especially closest to where the light is brightest. In this case the fringing was a bit blue to I desaturated the blue hue in my hsl/color adjustment panel. This helped a ton.
